I deca imaju prava
Members of the Open Club Youth Network and children from two local elementary schools, “Učitelj Tasa” and “Stefan Nemanja”, organized and realized street action under the slogan “The Children Have Rights”, on 14th of December 2013 in front of the Kalča shopping mall. The main goal of the street action was to draw attention on the importance and necessity of complying with the child rights and inform passersby about child rights.
Central part of the action was related to the “sandwich man” walk by. “Sandwich mans” were children who wore colorful cartons on which passers had opportunity to write answers on children questions: Which child rights you are familiar with? What do you think, which child rights are violated most often?
During the action, children shared balloons with written messages to the passersby. Most interesting part of the action was the performance in the form of frozen images depicting different situations of violation of child rights, such as the right on non-discrimination, right on quality education, health care, security, quality spare time, right on freely opinion expressing, etc.
Street action was organized as a part of the “Education for children rights” project, implemented by the Open Club Niš, in cooperation with two local elementary schools “Učitelj Tasa” and “Stefan Nemanja”, under the support of the Center for children’s rights from Užice and Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation from Switzerland. The project lasts 9 years and main goal of the project is to improve education about child rights and encourage the implementation of child rights in practice. This will be achieved through a variety of activities, such as trainings for children and teachers, preparation and realization of thematic units with elements of children’s rights, peer workshops, promotional activities, intercultural exchange etc.
Within this project, a group of 20 participants traveled to the international exchange camp in Switzerland during the month of April 2013. New group of 24 children will be part of the same program in the month of January 2014.
