News

In the past month and a half Association for Development of Children and Youth – OPEN CLUB successfully implemented another cycle of peer workshops on the topic of safe use of the internet within the project „Click safely“. The aim of the project was to educate and to inform the children from primary schools and their parents about advantages and risks in use of information and communication technology, different ways of safe use of new technologies and protection of children and youth from illegal, unauthorized and harmful content and behavior on internet.

In period from April 20th until May 30th, in five primary schools in Nis and suburban areas, ten peer educators from Open Club who previously attended training on topic safer usage of internet, implemented 40 workshops for around 500 students from V-VIII grade of elementary school and from I – II grades of secondary schools. In that way they have increased awareness of children and youth about potential dangers which exist online and possible ways to protect themselves in such situations.

Besides the peer workshops for students, 5 tribunes for parents and teachers were implemented, with the aim to increase awareness by giving of concrete directions for adequate reactions. Educative lectures were held on meetings of Council of parents as well as on the parental meetings in schools, where interactive promotional material was distributed, with useful advices and site addresses „Click safely“ and „Net patrol“ where children and youth, as well as their parents can get more information or seek for help.

So far, Open club implemented 5 projects on the subject of safer use of internet. Within these 5 projects, few hundred peer workshops were held, as well as over 100 tribunes for parents and teachers.

Through each project the number of elementary and high schools enrolled in educational process increased and in that way, wide network for support for children and youth was formed on the territory of city of Nis and large number of parent and teachers were educated and empowered.

The project „Click safely“ was implemented by the Open club with the support of  Fund B92, in cooperation with Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republic of Serbia and financial support of the European Commission Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content & Technology CONNECT and Telecom Serbia.
